Batkivschyna Party faction demands extraordinary Rada session to adopt resolution against hiking gas tariffs
The Batkivschyna Party faction has asked Verkhovna Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy to convene an extraordinary session of parliament to adopt a decision on a moratorium on tariff increases.
"The Batkivschyna faction has appealed to Parubiy with the demand to immediately convene an extraordinary session of parliament. We demand a resolution on a moratorium on tariff increases, which can ban the government from making further unlawful decisions. Under the Constitution, such an extraordinary meeting of parliament can be convened by the speaker or 150 deputies," reads a statement issued by the party on Monday.
"We count on the support of all concerned people's deputies, who believe that the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers to increase tariffs should be stopped, and utility tariffs should be brought to a reasonable level," the party said.
"You can put your signatures at any time (24 hours a day) in the party office in Kyiv. Our faction members have already signed," the statement said.
As earlier reported, on October 19, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to increase the price of natural gas for the population and heat supply companies by 23.5% from November 1, 2018.
Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko called on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to revoke this decision.
Tymoshenko also called on deputies of all levels to immediately convene extraordinary sessions and appeal to the president to immediately abolish this increase in tariffs. In addition, Tymoshenko appealed to Parubiy and people's deputies with the request to immediately initiate the convening of an extraordinary session of parliament to consider this issue.
The Rada's Batkivschyna faction numbers 20 deputies.
