U.S. Department of State comments on Chaly's statement on buying U.S. air defense systems

The U.S. Department of State has commented on the statements of Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly concerning Kyiv's interest in the acquisition of American air defense systems, the Ukrainian service of the Voice of America has reported.

In accordance with the official policy of the U.S. Department of State, we do not comment on potential deals on the sale or transfer of weapons and agreements that are at the stage of coordination - before the U.S. Congress is officially informed about them, a representative of the U.S. Department of State said.

As reported, Ukraine has filed a request to Washington for the purchase of air defense systems worth $750 million per unit. Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly said about this on the air of Radio NV on August 29.

"Our needs for the next period, in my opinion, are the sea space, the military airspace, this is what we need to ensure the defense of the country," the diplomat said.

He also said that Ukraine needed at least three such complexes, but did not specify which type of air defense he was talking about.
