Upgraded T-72AMT tank undergoes firing tests - Poroshenko

The T-72AMT main battle tank, which was modernized at the Kyiv Armor Plant (part of the Ukroboronprom State Concern), is undergoing firing tests at military ranges, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"During the tests, the new combat vehicle is undergoing all modes of shooting with different types of ammunition, including Kombat high-precision guided missiles. The Kombat's capabilities are sufficient to destroy even the most protected enemy tanks," the head of state wrote on his Facebook page on Monday, posting a respective video.

Poroshenko noted that due to the use of high-precision weapons, the T-72AMT has the ability to destroy enemy armored vehicles at a range of up to five kilometers. The new tank also received night vision devices with modern third-generation electron-optical converters for all crew members and a night sight for firing high-precision missiles.

At the same time, Ukroboronprom's press service said that the T-72AMT is a modernized version of the T-72A. One of the main features of the upgraded combat vehicle is the ability to fire Kombat missiles, which have a five-kilometer radius of destruction of enemy armored vehicles.

"Thus, the range of fire in the T-72AMT tank is twice as large as in the T-72A," the concern said.
