Ukrainian police will properly provide security at Champions League final

British Ambassador to Ukraine Judith Gough has said she does not rule out offenses involving football fans who will arrive in Kyiv for the Champions League final, but expressed confidence that the Ukrainian police will provide security at a proper level, according to the media liaisons department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov met with the Spanish and British ambassadors ahead of the Champions League final, during which, he said, about 12,000 police officers will maintain public order.

According to him, large-scale exercises of law enforcement officers were held at two main venues – Boryspil Airport and the Olympiyskiy National Sports Complex. The scenario for the development of the situation and mechanisms for interagency cooperation were worked out.

According to First Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine Viacheslav Abroskin, specialists from all units of the National Police will be involved in maintaining law and order.

According to the Interior Ministry, Gough expressed confidence that Ukrainian law enforcement bodies would ensure security during the final match at a proper level.

We know that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have a lot of experience working at mass events, she said. Most fans will behave calmly, but there may be security breaches, she added.

Gough said that British police would arrive in Kyiv early next week to help their Ukrainian colleagues.
