Poroshenko, Tusk discuss UN peacekeepers in Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and European Council President Donald Tusk have discussed at a meeting in New York the situation in east Ukraine and prospects for the deployment of a UN peacekeeping force in the occupied territories of Donbas, the press service of the head of state has reported.

"The sides discussed the situation in Donbas and coordinated their positions on the Ukrainian initiative to deploy a UN peacekeeping operation in occupied part of Donbas. The Ukrainian president thanked [Tusk] for the decision to extend sanctions against Russia," reads a statement posted on the website of the Ukrainian president on September 19.

In addition, the sides paid particular attention to the de-occupation of Crimea and discussed preparations for the Eastern Partnership summit, which will be held in Brussels in November.
