U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine to report on reforms in Washington

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch has welcomed a number of reforms, which are being carried out by the Ukrainian government.

We support the reform efforts of the Ukrainian society, she said during the conference titled "Transformation-17. What will the reforms change in the life of Ukrainians" in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to Yovanovitch, the U.S. supports Ukraine in this way. On behalf of the U.S., I can say that we are very proud to be able to maintain and support the reform efforts of Ukrainians, the diplomat said.

She noted the importance of reforms in the energy sector, which significantly increase the energy independence of the country, as well as the steps of the Ukrainian authorities to stabilize the banking system, especially commending the nationalization of Privatbank.

Yovanovitch called both the introduction of electronic declarations, and the establishment of anti-corruption organs important steps.

This is, of course, only the first steps, because only three years have passed, she said. It may seem a long period for someone, but in fact it is not that much time in the historical dimension, but the reforms are already visible, the ambassador said.

Tomorrow I will travel to Washington to tell what important reforms are taking place in Ukraine, she said.
