More than 40 import contracts on shipments of defensive equipment to the Ukrainian army are currently in place, their total value amounting to $1.5 billion, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

"We highly appreciate the support on the part of our Western partners. Now we have more than 40 import contracts on shipments of instruments of defense to the Ukrainian army currently implemented, with their total value reaching $1.5 billion," Poroshenko said in his annual address to the Verkhovna Rada in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The president said that partners donated armored vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, surveillance and communications means, counterbattery radars to the country.

Poroshenko said that Ukraine exports military goods and service to over 60 countries. In 2015, the country signed exports contracts worth over $1.3 billion, and the order portfolio for 2016 exceeds $1 billion.

The president said weapons exports do decrease Ukraine's own defense capabilities.
