If Constitutional court decides to cancel lustration, Rada to amend law and pass it again - Lutsenko

If the Constitutional Court of Ukraine decides that the law on lustration does not meet the Constitution of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada would amend it and pass it again, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has said.

"My position is that the cancelation of lustration is an attempt to eliminate the consequences of the revolution. I am sure that this is one of the effective ways of lustration using civilized procedures instead of post-revolution incidents," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Saturday.

He said that the law on lustration requires revision.

"Its authors should make amendments mentioned by the Venice Commission. This is work of lawmakers," he said.

"I personally don't allow for the possibility of cancelling lustration. If the Constitutional Court decides to repeal it for this or that reason, I am convinced that the parliament, and primarily the faction that I headed until recently [...], will make amendments envisioned by the Venice Commission and pass this legislation once again," he said.
