Ukraine's Education and Science Ministry will cooperate with Dutch Elsevier B.V., a world's leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, that has designed the Scopus abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature – a good tool for global academic community.

"Ukrainian Education and Science Minister Serhiy Kvit and Elsevier Board Chairman Youngsuk 'YS' Chi have signed a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and Elsevier," the ministry's press service reported.

Kvit pointed out the importance of cooperation of the Education and Science Ministry with Elsevier.

Deputy Education and Science Minister Maksym Strykha said that the presence of scientific articles of Ukrainian scientists in the acknowledged international scientific publications included in the leading databases is important for Ukraine. This is the basic requirement for establishing scientific contacts by Ukrainian scientists.

Chi confirmed his company's plans to develop cooperation with the Ukrainian Education and Science Ministry. It aims at strengthening the scientific and educational process in Ukraine.

Elsevier will study the opportunities of forming innovation solutions adapted to the scientific and educational needs of the Ukrainian science and society, the tools to apply the company’s analytical data to the information and analytical systems managed by the Ukrainian ministry.

The sides will also mull the opportunities of providing the special conditions for the Ukrainian scientific society, Ukrainian universities and scientific organizations to the database content via ScienceDirect and to the database of peer-reviewed literature.

The parties agreed to introduce the Scopus Award Ukraine in 2016 as part of the Elsevier's global initiative.
