Refugees from Donbas permitted to not pay for driving in Belarus – foreign chief

Refugees from Donetsk and Luhansk regions have been permitted not to pay for turnpike roads' trips in Belarus, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said.

"Commenting on granting the right of free driving on Belarusian turnpike roads for the refugees from Donetsk and Luhansk regions, it concerns only those citizens that expressed desire to move to Belarus for these severe times. I mean 100,000 of refugees [moving to Belarus]," he said at the joint briefing with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Kyiv on Wednesday.

In addition, Makei specified that in no way did the decision mean "recognizing Donetsk and Luhansk regions as some kind of republics."

As reported, according to the decree of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko as of August 10, owners of vehicles weighing less than 3.5 tonnes and trailers towed by them registered in Donetsk and Luhansk regions are relieved off the road toll on Belarusian turnpike roads.
