State Emergency Service of Ukraine claims Chornobyl wildfire under control

A wildfire is being put out near Kyiv, in the Chornobyl Puscha forestry area within the exclusion and mandatory resettlement zone; the situation is under control, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine has reported.

The wildfire that broke out across approximately 60 hectares between the former villages of Buda-Varovychi and Kovshylivka on Sunday was being extinguished throughout Monday, the report said.

The firefighting force comprises of 99 men and 27 pieces of hardware, including 50 men, eleven fire engines, three firefighting planes and one helicopter of the State Emergency Service. The service's aircraft performed 62 water dumps, including 17 by plane and 45 by helicopter.

As of 7 a.m. on Tuesday, the situation was under control and the extinguishing process continued, the report said.
