Ukrainian delegation to take part in MH17 crash reconstruction in Netherlands – Deputy PM

A Ukrainian delegation will go to the Netherlands on August 10 to participate in a technical reconstruction of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash which took place in July last year, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Hennadiy Zubko has said.

"On August 10-11, the Ukrainian delegation will travel to the Netherlands where for three days a technical reconstruction of the events that occurred a year ago will be carried out," Zubko told journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday.

In addition, a consolidated technical report on the crash which was prepared by all the participating countries will be approved there, he added.

Ukraine will present recommendations as to how to ensure flight safety and make such crashes impossible in the future, Zubko said.

A criminal investigation will also be continued, "which has reached a lot of conclusions that have been provided to the UN Security Council to pass a resolution," Zubko said.

"I'll tell you candidly that we expected support from the entire world in the desire to conduct the investigation transparently, but Russia was the only one to block this decision," Zubko said. "We'll explore other ways," he said.

Asked by Interfax what ways these could be, Zubko replied, "There are two other ways for us to move ahead to conduct an investigation and make sure that those responsible appear before an international court." He did not, however, specify these ways.

The Netherlands will continue searching for the missing fragments of the plane, and Ukraine will be facilitating this in any way it can, Zubko said.

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal had said earlier that the Netherlands would present a report on an investigation into the MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine at an August 10 closed session of an international task force investigating the crash but would not publish it for the time being.

The Dutch Safety Board said it planned to publish the final report on the crash in October.

Russia vetoed a UN Security Council draft resolution proposed by Malaysia on instituting an international tribunal to prosecute those responsible for the MH17 crash at the end of July.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in the area of the armed conflict near the village of Hrabove, not far from the town of Torez, in the Donetsk region of Ukraine on July 17, 2014. All 283 passengers and 15 crewmembers aboard the plane were killed.
