Police investigating blasts at Lviv police stations as terrorist attacks

The police have opened a criminal case on charges of a terrorist attack after two explosions occurred in Lviv.

"A criminal proceeding due to the elements of crime under Part 1, Article 258 (terrorist attack) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been opened as the result of blasts on two district police stations in Shevchenkivsky district of Lviv on July 14. The sanction of the article foresees five to ten years in prison," reads a statement which was posted on the website of Lviv office of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine on Tuesday.

The statement said that law enforcement agencies are currently establishing all the circumstances of the events.

"Measures are being taken to identify persons responsible for these crimes and to avoid such events [in future]," the statement said.

In addition, the ministry reported that two explosions took place in Lviv resulting in two policemen sustaining injuries.

According to preliminary data, the perpetrators rigged the entrances to district police stations. The Interior Ministry has linked these blasts to events in Zakarpattia which it said have been organized .to destabilize the situation in Ukraine
