Liashko says Poroshenko will ask parliament to sack SBU chief Nalyvaichenko, names possible nominee

Oleh Liashko, the leader of the Radical Party, belonging to the coalition in the Ukrainian parliament, claims that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will propose that the Verkhovna Rada dismiss head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Valentyn Nalyvaichenko.

"As for SBU Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko's dismissal. President Poroshenko's motion that he [Nalyvaichenko] be dismissed is most likely to be tabled in parliament tomorrow. The president will nominate Vasyl Hrytsak as a new SBU chief," Liashko wrote on Facebook on Monday.

Liashko said that his faction won't vote for Nalyvaichenko's dismissal as they see "revenge for Nalyvaichenko's uncompromising position in the fight against corruption" in an attempt to fire the SBU chief.

Ukrainian online newspaper Ukrainska Pravda in turn wrote with reference to its source that Poroshenko suggested at a meeting of the Petro Poroshenko's Bloc faction that Nalyvaichenko be tapped to head the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. At the same time, according to Poroshenko, Nalyvaichenko confirmed on Saturday that he was going to steps down as SBU chief.

SBU spokesman Markiyan Lubkivsky earlier wrote on Facebook that Nalyvaichenko would not travel to the U.S. to meet with U.S. congressmen on June 16 and 17 as planned, as he had received summons from an investigator of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) in reaction to his statement at the latest Cabinet meeting about the involvement of the former PGO chiefs in the fire at the BRSM oil depot.

Nalyvaichenko previously said that the former deputy prosecutor was a co-owner of the BRSM-Nafta oil depot.

Before visiting the PGO on Monday, Nalyvaichenko named that former deputy prosecutor, saying it was Anatoliy Danylenko.

Danylenko in turn told TSN news service and Channel 5 that he was going to sue Nalyvaichenko over the lies.

A fire broke out at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot in the village of Kriachky outside Kyiv on June 8. Firefighters still continue extinguishing the fire. Five people died in the fire and fifteen were injured, ten of them were hospitalized.
