Ukrainian economy minister explains situation with Borovik

Ukraine's Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius said that the situation with Sasha Borovik, who was nominated for the first deputy minister, but had not been finally appointed to this office, was a result of a human error.

"We took on board 85 new employees. There will be human errors. It is life. The situation with Borovik is a proof of that. He didn't fit in. We move on," he wrote on his Twitter on Thursday.

The minister said that during the reshuffle in the ministry four of the five new deputy ministers were appointed, there appeared 85 new members on the team (volunteers, experts, advisors), 156 people were fired, and 342 people were notified of their dismissal. All in all, 526 people (65%) were transferred to the new structure of the ministry.

Ukraine's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade reported earlier that Sasha Borovik had not been appointed as First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade and the ministry will terminate all ties with him.

The ministry said that on February 20 Sasha Borovik was presented as a candidate for the post of first deputy minister, but hasn't been appointed and has never held an official post in the ministry.

"During nearly three months Sasha Borovik has been an adviser as he had experience on certain issues the ministry is responsible for. He took part in the meetings and some activities of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine but only as an adviser," the press service of the ministry said said.

The ministry said that it is continuing very important work on the implementation, promotion and monitoring of reforms, therefore it is important that all those who work and advise the ministry are able to work together in a constructive manner. "For this reason the ministry decided to terminate all ties with Mr. Borovik," the press service said.
