'Opposition Bloc' claims being threatened by 'Ukrainian Insurgent Army'

An email sent to 'Opposition Bloc' in the early morning hours of Friday alleged the responsibility of a certain 'Ukrainian Insurgent Army' for murdering a number of opposition politicians and journalists and claimed plans for the physical elimination of representatives of the incumbent authorities and opposition members.

"We are assuming responsibility for the elimination of […] Chehetov, Peklushenko, Melnyk, Kalashnikov and Buzyna. It was a warning to the anti-people regime of traitor oligarchs: we were not joking when we said 'either lustration or liquidation'," the 'Opposition Bloc' press service quoted the letter received at 00:17 a.m. on April 17 as saying.

The anonymous message claimed the readiness to begin physical elimination of representatives of the incumbent authorities who "did not declare martial law and a state of war with Russia, did not breakup diplomatic and trade relations with the invader, and […] were guilty of surrendering Ukrainian territories to the enemy and major corruptive practices."

"People who call themselves 'Ukrainian Insurgent Army' give 'those acting against Ukraine and its people' 72 hours starting from midnight, March 18 [sic] to leave Ukraine once and for all," the bloc press service said.

"It seems that the author [or authors] was carried away by their graphomania and forgot to take a look at the calendar, or could it be that the time when the message was sent played a nasty joke? You can see anything in your dream at midnight," it said.

Nevertheless, "we are requesting organizations of the sort not to send spam to the party mailbox, and the Ukrainian Security Service and law enforcement authorities to pay attention to 'the insurgents' and the epistolary masterpieces sent on their behalf during the day to certain addressees, because they are threatening the lives of Ukrainian citizens," the press service said.

Volodymyr Fesenko, a political scientist and the head of the applied political studies center Penta, says he has received an email containing a statement by the 'Ukrainian Insurgent Army' claiming liability for the killings of some prominent politicians, including Oleh Kalashnikov and Oles Buzyna.

Fesenko said he believes this statement confirms his earlier theory that radical Ukrainian nationalists would be accused of perpetrating the killings of journalist Oles Buzyna and former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleh Kalashnikov.
