Ukraine will levy additional import taxes only after talks with EU – Lutsenko

Additional taxes on imports into Ukraine will be levied only after productive talks with the European Union, leader of the Petro Poroshenko's Bloc faction Yuriy Lutsenko has said.

"If such talks are productive, such a measure is possible for the sake of support for the balance of payments. Yet, it won't concern medicines, fuel and lubricating materials," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Sunday.

Lutsenko also said a compromise had been reached, to "introduce customs taxes only after the Cabinet of Ministers publishes positive conclusions by European partners on this issue."

What is more, Lutsenko said, Ukraine isn't interested in 'trade with Russia at zero [rates].' "We're interested in taxation of commodities originating from Russia," he said.

According to Lutsenko, neither the government nor the parliamentary coalition had shown the draft budget for 2015 to international organizations, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF). "The IMF hasn't sent us any official claim – all documents that have been tabled to the Verkhovna Rada don't foresee any obligation to hold consultations with any international organization," Lutsenko said.
