The economic court in Kyiv has arrested funds on the account of private joint-stock company Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) at Finance and Credit Bank (both based in Kyiv) and banned the carrier from opening new current accounts.

According to court ruling No. 910/25212/14 of November 18, 2014, the decision was made to secure a claim of first deputy prosecutor general of Kyiv in the interests of the state in the person of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine on collection of UAH 5.375 million from UIA. The claimant asked the court to arrest the funds on the defender's account and ban it from opening new current accounts.

The claimant explained the necessity of taking the measures by the fact that at present UIA did not pay on a voluntary basis the obligatory duties received from the sale of air tickets worth UAH 5.375 million. He said that this is evidence that the company is avoiding payment of funds to the state specialized fund for financing state expenses on aviation and Ukraine's participation in international aviation organizations.

The court ruling took effect from November 18 and could be appealed under a procedure foreseen in the economic procedural code of Ukraine.
