The opposition has demanded that Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka close criminal cases opened against the Maidan's self-defense units, Maidan commandant and Batkivschyna MP Andriy Parubiy has said.

"We are demanding that the Prosecutor General's Office immediately close all criminal proceedings against the self-defense," he said at a briefing at the press center of the opposition's national resistance headquarters on Friday.

He noted that the opposition sees the opening of criminal cases against the self-defense organization as a continuation of political repression aimed at escalating the conflict.

Parubiy said that four criminal proceedings had been opened against the self-defense organization.

"[The proceedings were launched] against the self-defense as an all-Ukrainian and regional structure operating in Lviv, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk regions," Parubiy said.

He said that at this moment the Maidan representatives were leaving for the Prosecutor General's Office to picket the building and transfer their demands to the prosecutor general.

The opposition demanded that the Prosecutor General's Office close criminal cases against the self-defense by 1500 on February 17.
