2 min read

Ukrainian Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko has ordered law enforcement authorities to refrain from using force on participants of peaceful rallies and has warned rally organizers on the responsibility for the safety of participants.

"Vitaliy Zakharchenko bans agency employees to use force regarding participants of peaceful gatherings currently being held in the Ukrainian capital and other cities of the country," the minister said in a statement obtained by Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

The minister has repeatedly asked the citizens participating in large-scale events to refrain from committing any violations, the statement said. "He urged people to be tolerant and cautious, not to give in to provocations, to treat others with respect and to inform police of suspicious individuals," the Interior Ministry press office said.

The law enforcement authorities are aware of some offences of organizers and coordinators, which occurred in Kyiv between November 24 and December 1, the minister said. "Some active participants of unrest have been detained already and a number of criminal proceedings have been opened. The range of offences committed by lawbreakers varies from cases of disorderly actions to seizure of official buildings and inflicting bodily injuries to law enforcement officers," the press office said.

"Rally organizers are responsible for organizing and holding events and their consequences as well," Zakharchenko said.
