The head of the European Parliament's Delegation of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, MEP Pawel Kowal, has welcomed the passing of European integration laws by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, and called on the Ukrainian parliamentarians "to take the final step."

He said this while commenting on the Ukrainian parliament's voting at first reading for the bills on the public prosecution system and on amendments to the election legislation, and the creation of a working group for work on the bill on treatment of convicts abroad.

"I support my colleagues in their law-making work and I am calling on them to move further – you have to take the final step necessary for the signing of the Association Agreement," Kowal said on Friday in a phone conversation with an Interfax-Ukraine reporter.

He also said that until the last moment [the signing] the European Union has to speak about its support for Ukraine in the process of economic and social reform implementation.

"At this difficult moment Ukraine has to feel that the European Union will support it not only by word, but also by deed. They really need such a signal today in order to resist Moscow's pressure," Kowal said.
