Signing of Association Agreement to have no negative effects for Ukraine, says EU ambassador

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has said that the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will have no negative effects for Kyiv.

"The Association Agreement means better living conditions, the modernization of the country, an action plan for Ukraine to become a better place for its citizens. This is the best tool that the European Union has to offer," the EU ambassador said in a speech at the 6th forum "Security in a Dangerous World" organized by Arseniy Yatseniuk's Open Ukraine Foundation.

The diplomat noted that more than seven million Ukrainians had left the country in recent years because they did not see any prospects there.

Tombinski assured that the authorities should work to improve the living standards and the interests of a person should be in the center of politics. These structures should serve people, and not vice versa, he said.

The ambassador also said that the signing of the Association Agreement would open access to foreign markets for Ukraine and help improve competitiveness of the country's producers.

"The association is a good offer and it does not affect other partners of the country. It does not contain any potential threats, it gives more opportunities to the country," Tombinski said.
