Kyiv calling on international community to join efforts in fighting terrorism, says foreign minister

Ukraine has condemned the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon, and called on the international community to join efforts in the fight against terrorism, Foreign Affairs Minister of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara has said.

"We were stricken by the news of the explosions at the Boston Marathon on April 15, where several people were killed and many injured," Kozhara said at a preparatory meeting for the 21st Economic and Environmental Forum of the OSCE in Kyiv on Tuesday.

He said that Kyiv condemned the terrorist attack, which resulted in deaths and injuries.

The foreign minister noted that the international community should not put up with this and cannot justify such acts.

"All the OSCE participating states should work together to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We should put up with it and we cannot justify it," the minister said.

According to him, terrorist attacks against civilians are totally unacceptable and show the need to join efforts to prevent and punish those who organize such acts.

"The terrorist attack in Boston shows that we must unite our efforts," Kozhara said.

On behalf of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and the government of Ukraine, he expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the explosions in Boston.

According to U.S. police, three people were killed, including an eight-year-old child, when two bombs went off near the finish line of a marathon in Boston on Monday.

At least 144 people were injured, with 17 of them in critical condition.
