Shevchenko to decide on coaching national team soon

The former skipper of the Ukrainian national football team and winner of the Ballon d'Or, Andriy Shevchenko, has promised to give his answer soon to the offer of President of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) Anatoliy Konkov to take up the post of the manager of Ukraine's national team.

"Yes, the president of the Football Federation of Ukraine, Anatoliy Dmytrovych Konkov, has offered me to take up the post of head coach of Ukraine's national team," Shevchenko said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

"I am flattered to know that they regard me as a worthy candidate for this responsible and honorable post, and entrust the fate of the main team of the country to me in the midst of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, I have asked for time to think. I will soon announce my response to the Football Federation's proposal," he added.

As reported, the FFU president invited Shevchenko to become a head coach of Ukraine's national team. This post became vacant after Oleh Blokhin agreed to take charge of FC Dynamo Kyiv.

The decision on such an appointment is taken by the executive committee of the federation.
