Kyivteploenergo: baseless pressure from law enforcement could destabilize essential city services

The municipal utility company Kyivteploenergo (KTE) has reported systemic pressure from law enforcement authorities, based on unfounded accusations that, if continued, could destabilize essential city operations as winter approaches.

"Today, on November 12, representatives from the Kyiv Metropolitan Police visited KTE's headquarters – a peculiar occurrence, given that Kyivteploenergo has no dealings whatsoever related to the metro," KTE shared on its Telegram channel on Tuesday.

According to KTE, the investigation pertains to construction work at an energy site managed by a contractor. The grounds for the search were alleged labor law violations and the contractor's supposed use of unregistered workers.

"KTE finds these accusations from law enforcement absurd, as the utility has no involvement in labor practices within the contractor's organization and has no authority over labor matters; this falls exclusively under governmental agencies," KTE said.

The company added that law enforcement officers attempted to seize original documents from ongoing contracts, which could disrupt critical infrastructure projects in the city. This incident follows several previous document seizures by police and prosecutors.

"It appears that criminal cases are being artificially created to destabilize the enterprise's operations at the very start of the heating season, with unprofessional interference in every aspect of our work," KTE stated.

The company warned that unauthorized interference in restoring the city's critical infrastructure could lead to unpredictable outcomes in winter.

"Our sole goal in restoring energy facilities is to ensure reliable power supply for Kyiv," KTE asserted.
