SBU, National Police detain Russian military intelligence agents preparing terrorist attack in Kyiv
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police prevented a terrorist attack in Kyiv that was planned by the Russian military intelligence (known as the GRU), the SBU reports.
On Wednesday, the SBU reported on its Telegram channel that as a result of a special operation, two Russian agents were detained who were supposed to prepare a homemade explosive device and detonate it in one of the crowded places in the capital of Ukraine.
According to the SBU counterintelligence, the enemy's goal was to cause the maximum number of deaths among the civilian population of Kyiv in order to spread panic among citizens.
"To commit a terrorist attack, Russian intelligence remotely recruited a 20-year-old resident of Zaporizhia, who was looking for easy money on Telegram channels. After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from the occupiers on how to make an explosive device from improvised components," the message says.
The SBU notes that the lawbreaker, on instructions from the enemy, used two mobile phones to which it was necessary to connect a detonator with plastic explosives, which was located in a camouflaged hiding place; the occupiers planned to give the girl its geolocation on the eve of the terrorist attack.
According to the SBU, the criminal was in contact with a career employee of Russian military intelligence, who was in the temporarily occupied part of the territory of Zaporizhia region.
"The agent recruited her 26-year-old partner to cooperate with the aggressor. Before committing the terrorist act, both defendants were supposed to carry out a "control" task of the Russian special service: to set fire to several units of military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Zaporizhia region," the message says.
In order to prevent the crime, SBU counterintelligence officers detained both enemy accomplices red-handed when they tried to set fire to an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) that was carrying out missions on the southern front.
Investigators from the Security Service informed the perpetrators of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons under martial law).
The perpetrators are kept in custody without the right to post a bail.
The special operation was carried out by SBU officers in Zaporizhia region together with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
