Most servicemen have positive attitude towards Rome Statute ratification – poll
Most of the Ukrainian military personnel have a positive attitude towards ratification of the Rome Statute, namely 37% of respondents fully support it, 34% rather support it, according to the results of the poll "Justice in the context of Russian aggression: Assessments and sentiments of military personnel" by the expert of the Ukraine 5AM coalition Maksym Eligulashvili.
According to these data, another 14% of respondents find it difficult to answer, while 9% rather do not support it and 6% do not support it at all.
"There is no critical rejection of the Rome Statute among civilians, and we see the same among the military... We are dealing with more than half of those surveyed who do not see a problem in ratifying the Rome Statute. Accordingly, accusations that the military is against it are not confirmed in the context of the data that is directly available. Moreover, what is critically important to me is that we do not have significant gaps between the officer corps and the sergeant corps," he said at the presentation of the survey results on Wednesday.
As reported by Head of the Rating sociological group Oleksiy Antypovych, as part of the study, 660 active military personnel were interviewed from July 25 to August 12, 2024, using a formalized interview method. He said the representativeness error of the study with a confidence probability of 0.95% does not exceed 4%. Earlier it was reported that 281 MPs voted for the corresponding bill No. 0285 on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and amendments to it as a whole at the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada on August 21.
