Ukraine's MFA on Belarus' statements: Creating imaginary threats does not make them reality
Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Heorhiy Tykhy said that the MFA does not see any need to respond to statements from Belarus, but is monitoring the actions of the Belarusian authorities.
"The Belarusian side is known for such statements. There is no need to respond. I will only say that the creation of imaginary threats from Ukraine, no matter how intense it is, does not make these threats more real," he said at a briefing on Tuesday.
The MFA spokesman called for not giving in to provocations.
He also assured that the MFA would continue to monitor the actions and statements of Belarus and respond to them appropriately.
Earlier it became known that on August 10, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin announced that Belarus had decided to strengthen its troops in the Gomel and Mozyr directions near the border with Ukraine. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in the country, Olha Timush, due to Lukashenko's statements about allegedly downed air targets from Ukraine that violated the borders of Belarus. The Belarusian side also expressed "doubt about the advisability of the presence of diplomatic missions of Ukraine on its territory," and a "strong protest was voiced to the Ukrainian diplomat."
