Govt launches institute of specialists in accompanying veterans – ministry

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution that launches the introduction of specialists in accompanying war veterans and demobilized persons, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs said.

According to the ministry, the document defines a mechanism for ensuring the activities of specialists in accompanying war veterans and demobilized persons in the system of transition from military service to civilian life.

In particular, this concerns the requirements for candidates for specialists in accompanying, the organization of their professional training, working conditions and functionality, subordination and reporting for the work done.

According to the document, the categories that the specialist deals with include: war veterans; persons with special merits to the Motherland; injured participants of the Revolution of Dignity and family members of such a category of persons; family members of a deceased (deceased) war veteran; family members of a deceased (deceased) Defender of Ukraine; demobilized persons.

It is noted that the support specialist is the first person who meets a veteran upon returning to the community, provides information support and support, advises on obtaining statuses, benefits, services, housing, rehabilitation, employment, and provides legal assistance.

"In essence, the specialist is an information advisor for veterans, their family members, and the families of deceased Defenders. He helps, fills out documents, coordinates the veteran, directs, represents interests, explains rights, helps to realize the right to benefits and services," the department said.

The Ministry of Veterans Affairs said a citizen of Ukraine with veteran status and an education level of at least a bachelor's degree in the following fields of knowledge can become a support specialist: "education/pedagogy," "social and behavioral sciences," "law," "healthcare," "social work," "public administration" and "administration."

It is noted that candidates for the position submit an application electronically through the e-Veteran platform: https://eveteran.gov.ua (registration will be open until the end of August).

After submitting an application, candidates undergo testing for knowledge of legislation and psychological testing.

The system then reports the result of the submitted application, after which it is processed by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and sent to local governments for further consideration by the commission.

The department said preference will be given to candidates with the status of a war veteran, a person with special merits to the Homeland, an injured participant in the Revolution of Dignity, a family member of a deceased (deceased) war veteran, or a Defender of Ukraine.

"However, the main priority in the selection is the professional qualities of the candidates. Later, the candidate will have an interview with representatives of the commission," the ministry said.

According to the report, professional training of specialists and their advanced training will be carried out in higher education institutions and veteran development centers of the Ministry of Veterans in accordance with the standard educational program, and then support specialists will work in municipal institutions, in particular in veteran spaces at the Ministry of Veterans.
