Getting nuclear power back up, its operation makes perfect sense for Ukraine in short run – Pritzker
Restoring and operating nuclear energy in combination with all other efforts made by allies makes sense for Ukraine in the short run, U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Economic Recovery Penny Pritzker has said.
But in the short run, getting nuclear power back up and operating and well-serviced makes perfect sense, in addition to all the other efforts that are going on by all of our allies.
"Nuclear energy is 50% of Ukraine's energy supply today. And so, you can't ignore the existence of nuclear power in this country. But the efforts put on – being put forward not just by the United States, but frankly, by our allies, is an all-of-the-above strategy to help address the energy shortage created by the [Russia's] attacks that have begun since March of this year," she told a press briefing in Kyiv on Monday.
The Special Representative noted that it is up to the Ukrainian government to determine how it wants to generate power in the long term.
"But in the short run, getting nuclear power back up and operating and well-serviced makes perfect sense, in addition to all the other efforts that are going on by all of our allies," she said.
