Ukraine bans import of meat products from Sweden, USA due to bird flu, animals from Iraq due to bluetongue
Ukraine has limited the import of livestock products from Sweden and the United States due to the registration of bird flu, the Eastern Interregional Main Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection reported, citing the order of the state veterinary inspector.
According to the message, from January 9, the import of hatching eggs, poultry and poultry products from disadvantaged areas of Sweden is prohibited. An exception is products that have been processed by a method that guarantees the destruction of the causative agent of the specified disease.
In addition, since January 8, the same ban on the import of poultry and hatching eggs from the U.S. state of Pennsylvania has been in force.
The State Food Service noted that the import of these products into Ukraine from such U.S. states as Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, Washington, California, Oregon, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Utah, South Dakota, North, Wisconsin, Georgia, Maryland, Ohio, Colorado , Kansas, Michigan, New York, and Idaho.
According to the order of the state veterinary inspector dated January 11, the import of bluetongue-prone animals and genetic material from them into Ukraine from Iraq is also prohibited.
