The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN FAO) plans to provide aid to farmers in Donetsk region, the press service of Donetsk Regional Military-Civil Administration has reported.

The press service said that Deputy Head of Administration Vladyslav Lavryk and FAO Emergency Coordinator Farrukh Toirov discussed the provision of assistance at a meeting held in Kramatorsk.

Lavryk said that farmers in Donetsk region require urgent support in the present situation.

"We’re thankful to UN FAO for [paying] attention to our problems and the practical aid you are ready to provide to farmers," he said.

Toirov said that the mission of his organization is the provision of food safety to all people and guaranteeing regular access to high-quality food.

"FAO, jointly with the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine, quickly assessed the losses and needs of the agricultural sector in the troubled regions. The assessment showed large losses among farmers. Our specialists have drawn up draft proposals to provide urgent aid to small farmers and residents of rural areas affected [by the conflict] who are involved in household farming," Toirov said.

The regional authorities said after the meeting that the Artemivsk and Sloviansk districts of Donetsk region were proposed as the selected beneficiaries of the FAO project.

"Seeds, fertilizers in small amounts and fodder will be distributed under the project," the administration said.
