Kyiv: Foreign ministers, deputies to meet in "Normandy format" in Berlin on Monday

The foreign ministers of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France are due to gather in Berlin on Monday evening to discuss the peace process in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry speaker Yevhen Perebyinis said.

"A meeting of the foreign ministers is scheduled to start at approximately 6 p.m. today. Before that, consultations will be held between deputy ministers on the same venue, Berlin," Perebyinis told Interfax on Monday.

A document aimed at coordinating a plan for the fulfillment of every item of the Minsk agreements is being elaborated upon, the ministry spokesman said.

The "Normandy format" negotiations involve representatives of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on December 29 that the next "Normandy format" meeting dedicated to the peace process in eastern Ukraine would take place in Astana on January 15.

The European Union said on January 9 that a meeting of presidents in the "Normandy format" had yet to be confirmed.

The foreign ministers of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France agreed to meet in Berlin in a telephone conversation on January 9.

Russia's attendance at the "Normandy format" meeting in Astana on January 15 will depend on the outcomes of preparations done by experts, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"If preparations for the January 15 meeting reach a practical stage we will make a relevant statement concerning the attendance of President Putin; so far the preparatory work continues at the level of experts and our further moves depend on its outcomes," the newspaper Vedomosti quoted Peskov as saying on Monday.
