Energoatom, some strategic companies to retain high salaries, says finance ministry

The law on amending and revoking Ukrainian laws (No. 76-VIII) of December 28, 2014, which restrict civil servant salaries, will make an exception for strategic state enterprises, the list of which is to be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Finance Ministry has reported.

"For example, these are companies such as Energoatom, where skilled employees require the relevant salaries," reads a post on ministry's website, citing Deputy Finance Minister Denys Fudashkin.

He said that in other cases the law foresees restricting wages for state companies to up to 10 minimum wages (minimum wage is UAH 1,218 a month), and the reduction of their workforce.

In addition, paragraph 10 of the final provisions of the law states that wages for civil servants is to be restricted to seven minimum wages, and if the number of employees is reduced without the changing wage funds – up to 10 minimum wages. The restriction does not apply to military serviceman, Fudashkin said.

He added that the law foresees the reduction of the number of civil servants by 20%.
