European Commission's rep Mamer: EC to present negotiating framework on Ukraine's accession to EU as soon as it's ready

The European Commission will present a framework for negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union when they are ready.

On Thursday in Brussels, European Commission Chief Spokesperson Eric Mamer, at the request of journalists, commented on the recent statement by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen that this document will not be ready before the European elections, which will be held in EU member states from June 6 to 9. As it is known, earlier it was said that the negotiating framework could be approved as early as March.

"The president said, if I remember correctly 'my best guess.' So, obviously we're working on preparing this negotiating framework, which may be presented as soon as it's ready, basically in the next few weeks or later. So there's no precise date for this, no date is specified for the negotiating framework. It will be presented as soon as it's ready so in the coming weeks perhaps or later," Mamer said.

Answering the question why work on the framework cannot be accelerated, the representative of the European Commission said "it's not a matter of speeding it up." "It's a matter to be ready. So, the work is ongoing and we will present a framework as soon as it ready," he said.
