Polish farmers extend strike to Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint, Slovak carriers stage warning protest – media

Farmers from the Oszukana Wieś organization will block the movement of trucks at the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Polish border from November 22, within the framework of Polish carriers' strike, the leader of the Polish protesters, Rafał Mekler, told the Polish publication Wiadomości.

In turn, Vladimir Sopuch from the Slovak Union of Motor Carriers (UNAS) said that the union, along with Polish carriers, blocked the Vyšné Nemecké-Uzhgorod checkpoint on November 16 from 13:00 until 14:00.

"The one-hour-long blockade is a warning protest. As a next step, we will send our position and demands to the European Commission. Then permanent blockades will start in Slovakia," Mekler said.

According to a statement posted on Facebook page of the UNAS, the union plans to demand from that the European Transport Commission to immediately introduce permits for Ukrainian carriers as European companies cannot compete with them.

At the same time, the Slovak carriers threatened to completely block the border with Ukraine of Brussels does not regulate the situation.

Mekler also said that, according to his information, Lithuanian carriers were also considering a possibility of joining in the protest.
