Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko met in Leipzig with Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and talked with Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany Svenja Schulze, the press service of the mayor reports.

It is noted that the interlocutors discussed support and further assistance to Ukraine, the development of local self-government and cooperation between the communities of Ukrainian and German cities.

"I met with Federal President of Germany Steinmeier at the German-Ukrainian conference of municipal partnerships. I also talked with Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany Schulze. I thanked the partners for the assistance that Germany has provided and plans to provide to Ukraine. In particular, EUR 8 billion next year. He also stressed that it is very important to strengthen support for Ukraine - with weapons that we need so much at the front, financially and economically. Because today we cannot talk about ‘fatigue’ from the war. After all, this is what Putin is counting on. European partners and the democratic world should unite around Ukraine more than ever, strengthen their position and support," Klitschko said, commenting on the meeting.

He noted that they also talked with Schulze about helping Ukrainian cities. In particular, during the critically difficult winter period, when Russian barbarians will again try to destroy critical infrastructure. The Minister assured that Germany would support the Ukrainian communities as long as necessary.

"Burkhard Jung, the mayor of Leipzig, a city that of the German communities has the oldest partnership with the Ukrainian one (with Kyiv), in particular stressed that the partnership is more effective when cities of different countries cooperate directly. Because the local authorities know the needs of communities better and ensure their livelihoods. That is why the communication of mayors and representatives of local self-government, which is taking place at the German-Ukrainian conference of municipal partnerships in Leipzig, is very important. Many mayors and representatives of local self-government from Ukraine and Germany gathered here," Klitschko stressed.

During his speech at the conference, Klitschko stressed that the success of the recovery, the restoration of Ukraine depends, first of all, on its implementation of important reforms, already today - anti-corruption, public administration, economic transformations, decentralization. And in this, Ukraine also counts on the help of partners.
