Restoration Ministry to cancel at least 30% of intl bus routes

The Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development (Restoration Ministry) will cancel at least 30% of international bus passenger routes, Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

"Some 280 routes have already been closed - this is to Poland and the Russian Federation. In November, at the mixed commission with Moldova, we will cancel all routes that did get together. We are working in a similar way with Romania, the Czech Republic and other countries. According to my estimates, at least 30% of all routes will be canceled," Derkach said.

According to him, according to legal requirements, a carrier must have a partner from another country to operate an international route.

"Without such a parity partner, he either travels on domestic routes within the country or does not travel at all. We have made relevant requests to neighboring countries (Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and Moldova) and are finding out how many carriers who were issued permits did not contact them at all, that is, they do not have such a partner. Officially, we have the authority to close such routes," Derkach said.

He clarified that 140 routes with Poland, in particular, were closed. Verification of routes with Moldova is currently underway - there are questions about 40 routes.
