If deportation of Ukrainians from Israel does not stop, entry of Israelis into Uman will be prohibited, visa-free regime will be terminated – embassy

Entry of Israeli citizens to the city of Uman, Cherkasy region will be banned, and Ukraine will term stop visa cancellation agreement with Israel, if the deportation of Ukrainians from Israel does not stop, according to a message published on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel.

"The government of Ukraine will not tolerate humiliation of its citizens while entering Israel. We will halt our bilateral visa wavering agreements as its stipulated by Article 7 of the intergovernmental agreement. This option is on the table of our government. It is unthinkable that we will have to go out of our way to host tens of thousands of Israelis in Uman, with a high security risk, and with a huge logistical effort, when on the other hand – the Israeli government abuses our citizens who come to Israel within the framework of the treaty between the two countries," Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk said.

As noted in the report, the message was conveyed in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's recent address to the nation and in the words of Korniychuk, who called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reconsider the entrance policy toward Ukrainians and intervene in the issue. "If Israel wants its citizens to be able to come to Ukraine as tourists, including Uman, I believe that the Prime Minister, Netanyahu, should intervene, personally, in finding a solution to the current state of affairs," the ambassador said.

The embassy said that earlier Zelenskyy, as part of a weekly briefing, said that he had heard a report from the Border Guard Service, the Foreign Ministry and intelligence on the treatment of Ukrainian citizens abroad, and that those responsible for these issues were given appropriate tasks so that the rights of Ukrainian citizens were guaranteed. Korniychuk later said that Zelenskyy's words were about Israel.

As reported, two weeks earlier, the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration recommended that the Hasidim refrain from visiting Uman on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, but began to take measures to strengthen the security measures for guests and local residents.

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, which is celebrated two days in a row on the new moon of the autumn month of Tishrei according to the Jewish calendar. From this day begins the countdown of the days of the new Jewish year.
