Poltava region to sow all planned 1.4 mln hectares in April – authorities

Agrarians of Poltava region in April plan to sow all 1.4 million hectares of land planned for the sowing campaign in 2022, while 250,000 hectares of previously sown winter wheat is in a satisfactory and good condition.

The start of the sowing campaign in the region and the ongoing feeding of winter crops were reported on the website of Poltava Regional Military Administration on Tuesday.

"We are preparing for the start of the sowing campaign. No restrictions on the movement of equipment, personnel, seeds and fertilizers; provision of fuel; booking from the call of machine operators and other workers involved in the sowing campaign; no withdrawals of agricultural equipment involved in the work – farmers can count on all this. Task number one is to sow all the fields of Poltava region, and we have 1.4 million hectares," the administration quotes its head, Dmytro Lunin.

According to the military administration, 250,000 hectares in Poltava region are sown with winter wheat, which is in a satisfactory and good condition.

"The authorities will do everything to ensure that the sowing campaign takes place on the maximum scale. The government is introducing a plan to support the sowing campaign. The state will compensate interest on loans to cover expenses. In Poltava region, we are creating a special team under the regional military administration to coordinate the sowing campaign. The regional authorities will lend a shoulder to every agrarian, every farmer," Lunin said.

As reported, to ensure the sowing season, small and medium-sized agricultural producers with a turnover of up to EUR 20 million per year during martial law will be able to receive an interest-free loan for six months up to UAH 50 million under a state guarantee of 80% of its sum.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the total need for funds for the sowing campaign is about UAH 100 billion.

Minister of Agrarian Policy Roman Leschenko said this week that the needs of Ukrainian farmers by the sowing season 2022 are provided by 84%, including in crop protection agents – by 55%, seed material – by 78%. The most critical is the shortage of fuel for agricultural equipment, but the situation is already being resolved at the level of top official.
