Russian troops not attacking, continuing to attack residential areas around Kharkiv with rockets – Kharkiv RSA head Synehubov
Kharkiv is completely under the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Over the past day Russian troops have fired more than 50 artillery shells and shelling from a multiple rocket launching systems (MLRS) on the outskirts of Kharkiv, Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Synehubov has said.
"The situation in Kharkiv region as of March 9. Kharkiv is completely under the defense of Ukraine's armed forces. The enemy is not carrying out active offensive operations, but continues to launch rocket attacks on housing infrastructure on the outskirts of the city," he said on Telegram channel on Wednesday.
According to the report, over the past 24 hours, the Russian troops fired more than 50 artillery shells and multiple rocket launchers at the Oleksiyivka, Piatyhatky, Pivnichna Highway, Belgorod Highway, Kholodna Hora, at Derhachi, Pivdenna and Pivnichna Saltivka districts.
Synehubov said at about 9.25 pm on Tuesday, an enemy fighter jets from the city of Belgorod, Russia, attacked the city of Izium. But as a result of coordinated actions of the Ukrainian air defense units, the planes retreated. No casualties were reported.
He added that fighting continues in the city of Izium, the enemy is building pontoon-bridges across the rivers of Siversky Donets and Berek.
Ukrainian military units have once again repulsed the enemy near Derhachi. Ukrainian ground units, together with units of the National Guard and territorial defense, counterattacked enemy position in the vicinity of Kharkiv.
"After unsuccessful resistance, the enemy fled, abandoning their military equipment. Some Russian soldiers ran into the woods in the direction of Belgorod, Russia," he said.
Early on Wednesday night in the village of Andriyivka, Balakliya district, a battle took place between Ukraine's State Border Service and sabotage and reconnaissance groups of the enemy.
"The enemy attacked the checkpoint. In the battle, enemy sabotuers were defeated and fled. They left their wounded comrade in the middle of an open field. He was captured by our Ukrainian border guards," Synehubov said.
