Lukashenko favors greater role of OSCE in resolving int'l problems
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko supports the idea of giving OSCE a greater role in resolving international problems, the presidential press service said.
"You can count on our assistance and support in arranging any OSCE events here in Minsk. I absolutely support your personal determination to reform the organization and give it a greater role in resolving international problems. This absolutely coincides with our opinion, our evaluation of the role and place of the OSCE in the world today," Lukashenko said at a meeting with OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger in Minsk on Tuesday.
According to the president, Belarus has always favored dialogue. "In this complex and contradictory world, dialogue is the main means of communication between peoples, leaders of states, and states in general. And the fact that we have met for an anti-terrorist conference in Minsk today is a very strong signal for our region. We will do our utmost to make sure this conference, which is being held in Belarus for the first time, becomes a landmark event and takes a deserving place in the history of the development of not only the OSCE," Lukashenko said.
He said that in the near future, Belarus will host a Munich Security Conference Core Group Meeting. "I will be glad to see you here in Minsk so that in the framework of this influential conference, you will be able to express your opinion and hear the opinions of many experts and people of high standing on our common problems. I want to assure you that as before, we will always try to play a big role in the settlement of conflicts that, unfortunately, exist on our Eurasian continent," the president said.
On October 9-10, Minsk is hosting an international high-level conference on preventing and countering terrorism in the digital age organized by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry and the OSCE.
