Closure of criminal case against historian Kuprianowicz in Poland is victory of common sense

A criminal case against a representative of the Ukrainian community, historian Grzegorz Kuprianowicz, who delivered a speech in July in the Polish settlement of Sagryn at the ceremony of opening a monument devoted to Ukrainians who fell victims of the division of Armia Krajowa, has been closed, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.

"After the termination of the criminal prosecution of the well-known historian and public figure, Grzegorz Kuprianowicz, I find myself with mixed feelings. What the Institute of the National Memory of Poland did was very important to him personally from a human point of view, and in fact, this is the victory of common sense. The legislation and the changes to the law on the Institute of National Memory remain," Klimkin wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday, August 25.

Therefore, according to the Ukrainian foreign minister, there remains space for manipulation and attacks on freedom of speech and freedom of thought in Poland.

"Therefore, we must work further, and in fact, this legislation is very bad for everyone, but first of all, for Poland and for the Poles," Klimkin said.
