German FM visits Shyrokyne vicinity, amazed at destruction scale in the village

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Friday visited the village of Shyrokyne in Donetsk region and was amazed at the scale of the destruction in the village, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Civil Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky has said.

Maas, together with Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, visited the front-line village of Berdianske on Friday, where they talked to people, Zhebrivsky wrote on his Facebook page.

"The main thing that worries everyone is when peace returns. Klimkin assured that everything is being done at the diplomatic level so that Russia could withdraw its mercenaries and agree to key the Russian-Ukrainian state border," Zhebrivsky wrote.

The ministers, alongside monitors from the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, also visited an observation point near Shyrokyne. "The German foreign minister was struck by the scope of damage in the village. He ensured that he would thoroughly facilitate the settlement of the armed conflict in Ukraine," Zhebrivsky said.
