Finance minister's letter to G7 ambassadors unacceptable, groundless

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman believes that the letter of Ukrainian Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk to G7 ambassadors about a conflict with the prime minister is unacceptable.

"We discussed the issue with colleagues-ministers after the cabinet meeting in the presence of Danyliuk. All colleagues believe that even this letter was absolutely unacceptable, and his reaction was unjustified and emotional," Groysman said on 112.Ukraine TV Channel late on Thursday.

The prime minister said that Danyliuk apologized for the letter and said that it was his mistake.

"Nevertheless, this was the letter not about Danyliuk, who wrote to the European Commission, this was the letter, which disturbs confidence in Ukraine, which is absolutely groundless," Groysman said.

As reported, Danyliuk unsuccessfully tried at a Cabinet meeting on May 23 to get his adviser Yana (Jana) Bugrimova appointed as deputy minister. The public broadcast of the meeting was terminated, but those who were present there told Interfax-Ukraine that after a short squabble with Groysman, the minister's request was rejected. In the course of the exchange of views, Danyliuk even announced his resignation letter would be drawn up.

Danyliuk sent a letter to the G7 ambassadors to prevent possible misunderstanding or manipulation with information about his dispute with Groysman. The Ukrainian economic news outlet Ekonomichna Pravda published the letter on May 31. The letter was written before Groysman's visit to Brussels on May 25. Danyliuk said that he insists on the right to form his team himself without agreeing it with the prime minister or the president, who wanted the appointment of persons lobbied by MP Ihor Kononenko or head of the parliamentary committee on tax and customs policy Nina Yuzhanina to that post.
