Lutsenko not planning to participate in presidential election

krainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has said that he does not intend to take part in the upcoming presidential election.

"I'm probably the only non-presidential candidate from a large circle of my acquaintances. It's a well-thought-out decision. From the very beginning of my work here, despite various conversations, I'm certainly not a presidential candidate," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax- Ukraine.

Speaking about the upcoming election, Lutsenko called it "symbolic."

"Exactly one hundred years ago, Ukraine was in almost the same situation... A small group of people tried to build the country at that time, and a huge mass of people, heated by the fifth column of the Kremlin, home-grown radicals and useful idiots, simply destroyed the UPR. Then millions of Ukrainians were killed. We must remember this lesson if we want to be a successful country," he said.

According to Lutsenko, his role in the election is "to restrain himself and not start giving direct estimates to populists."

"I will try to say only one thing. Let them support those who build the country, not those who criticize everything and make endless unrealizable promises," he said.

The next presidential election in Ukraine will be held in 2019.
