Over 2,300 law enforcers to maintain public order in Odesa on May 2

About 2,300 security forces, including police, members of the National Guard of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine, will maintain public order in the city of Odesa on Wednesday, May 2.

A number of events are planned in Odesa to commemorate May 2, 2014, when 48 people were killed and more than 200 were injured during civil unrest, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent has reported.

In particular, Odesa residents will gather on Soborna Square at 14:00 local time to pay tribute to the memory of the first victims on Hretska Square, where the first clashes started between pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian activists in 2014.

At 15:00 local time, there will be a memorial service on Odesa's Kulykove Pole field to commemorate the victims of the 2014 fire in the House of Trade Unions.

Also, the so-called March of the Ukrainian Order will start at the Taras Shevshenko Park at 18:00 local time. Some 1,500 people are expected to take part in the event. They will head through the central streets of Odesa for Soborna Square.

Due to the increased security measures, access to the location where the mass events will take place will be through metal detectors at specially installed checkpoints.

In addition, traffic near Kulykove Pole and Soborna Square will be restricted.
