Transdniestria imitates participation in 5+2 format

The Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic (TMR) imitates participation in the 5+2 format, but in fact it is working to gain independence and recognition in the world, Bloc of Petro Poroshenko MP Iryna Friz has said.

"The TMR imitates participation and work in the 5+2 format. In fact, Tiraspol continues its efforts to gain independence and recognition by the international community, which contradicts the process of the peaceful settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict," she wrote on her Facebook page on Monday.

She said that the TMR does not have the right to independence.

"There are no authentic peoples in the TMR case, there is no religious factor, and there are no historical prerequisites. This is an artificial puppet formation completely controlled by the Kremlin. This is our attitude to the TMR. For Ukraine it is part of the Republic of Moldova," she said.

Friz said she was confident that the priority task remains the withdrawal of the entire group of Russian troops from the TMR and the replacement of the peacekeeping contingent to an international one with a UN mandate.

"This will reduce the degree of tension created by Russian troops and deprive Transdniestria of a force factor in polemics with Ukraine and Moldova. This will obviously make Tiraspol more flexible in 5+2 negotiations," she said.

As reported, another round of official negotiations on the Transdniestrian settlement in the 5+2 format begins in Vienna on November 27. Such meetings have not been held since April 2014.
