One of attackers on police officers near parliament arrested for two months
Kyiv's Pechersky District Court has arrested a participant in a rally outside the building of the Verkhovna Rada on October 17 for 60 days without the right to post bail for his involvement in beating a law enforcer, the media liaisons department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported on Thursday, October 26.
"Then a group of people ripped off protective equipment, attacked a law enforcer with fists, and, when he fell to the ground, started kicking him. Over the beating of a police officer, investigators... launched criminal proceedings under Article 345 (threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. As part of the investigation, the involvement of Petro Oliynyk in beating the police officer was established," the report says.
It turned out that the man had lived in the presidential residence in Mezhyhiria since February 2014.
"It was there, in the office of [former runaway president Viktor] Yanukovych, that investigators handed him a notice of suspicion in committing a crime envisaged by Part 2, Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," the ministry said.
As reported, four people, including a 26-year-old police officer and a 64-year-old resident of Ivano-Frankivsk region, were injured during mass events near the Verkhovna Rada on October 17.
In addition, demonstrators seized protective equipment from several police officers, in particular, about 30 shields and several helmets.
Three criminal proceedings were launched under Article 345 (threat or violence against a law enforcement officer), Article 186 (robbery) and Article 194 (intentional destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
