Financial Investigation Service should have functional independence

The Financial Investigation Service should, first of all, have functional independence, Ukraine's Minister of Justice Pavlo Petrenko has stated.

"First of all, this body should have functional independence," the minister said at a meeting with the representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, speaking about his vision of work of the Financial Investigation Service.

Speaking about the subordination of the created structure, the minister said "this can be the Ministry of Finance, which can coordinate this service, but the service should 100% have procedural and functional independence."

He stressed this would become the guarantee of efficiency and objectivity of the service.

"I think it's normal to conduct a discussion who should formally coordinate the work of this body ... The main thing is that the law should be qualitatively registered in terms of powers, in terms of how this service communicates with business," Petrenko said.

The minister is convinced the independence of this service should be determined at the level of law.
